Blow Out (1981)*****.
Definitely my favourite by Brian De Palma. I liked it so much I saw it twice in 24 hours, and had a hard time sending it back.
“…this movie is inhabited by a real cinematic intelligence.” Roger Ebert’s FULL REVIEW.

Ben Hur (USA, 1959)*****.
I saw this masterpiece in a glorious 70mm-print at Arclight a few weeks ago and since then, I find myself reading everything about it. The production involved is so grand that I still have no words to describe what I saw. It blows my mind that even though this movie was made 63 years ago, it still looks better (and is better) than most movies made in the past 10...

Ladies And Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains (USA, 1981)***.
Diane Lane stars this cult awsomeness alongside the great Ray Winstone, The Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones and Paul cook and The Clash’s Paul Simonon.
Nothing great. Just really cool.

Sucker Punch (USA, 2011)**.
Uh… I guess if a girl is trapped in a mental institution, she better have some stylized-fantasies about fighting evil in trampy outfits. Cool premise right?

It could have been a lot better. Or maybe I expected too much.

If you have money, might as well spend it on art. Definitely a DVD to own.

I still feel strong
Into the half light
Another velvet morning for me yeah
Time
Stands still
As you take
Your last pill
Into the half light
Another velvet morning for me
And now I’m trying to tell you
About my life
And my tongue is twisted
And more dead than alive
And my feelings
They’ve always been betrayed
And I was born a little...

Really hard to f up a movie with this cast. Pretty awsome to see Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet playing against type.

Frankenstein (USA, 1994)***1/2.
Not as good as the book (pretty hard to get close to that, I assume), but a good movie nonetheless.
